High Cotton for Brunch

While I enjoyed our meals during our first two days in Charleston, I was most excited for the reservations I made for my birthday on Sunday! Per a recommendation from our friend Diana, we booked reservations for brunch at High Cotton.

Unsure of the dress code, we erred on the side of caution.  The Husband wore a collared shirt with nice shorts (it is the end of summer in the south) and I went with a summery skirt and nice top.  We fit in nicely for our demographic!

The dining room was exactly what I imagined: classy and southern with ceiling fans included!

Being my birthday and brunch, I was certainly going to have an “eye opener.”

I originally planned on the generic mimosa but decided on the Island Martini as soon as I saw it: Stoni Vanila, house infused pineapple vodka, and orange juice.  Yum!  The Husband decided to try The Charleston Cocktail:  Local Firefly Sweet Tea vodka, Madeira, lemonade, iced tea, and mint infused syrup.  The right drink for the atmosphere 🙂

When I checked out the menu prior to making reservations, I knew exactly what I would have: Crab Cakes Benedict.  A slight twist on eggs benedict, this dish was with crab cakes instead of ham and fried green tomatoes instead of english muffins.  With a side of cheese grits, this dish was amazing! A great start to the day 🙂

The Husband ordered the French Toast and bacon.  Simple and good.

I also ordered a side of fresh fruit…

Overall, brunch was wonderful.  The food and drink were enjoyable, the service was good, and the atmosphere was enjoyable.  If we get a chance, I’d love to try High Cotton again for lunch or dinner!
