McCormick & Schmick’s Happy Hour

Posted by Amanda @ The Hungry Wanderers on May 10, 2010

Happy Mothers Day! While the Husband and I are caught up on our cross country move posts, all of my photos for Las Vegas things thus far are on the SD card in the DSLR that is currently with the Husband on his second drive cross country with his dad (posts to come from him this week! and I’ll catch up on the LV posts when he gets back).  In the meantime, though, I did get pictures of happy hour on Friday night with my point and shoot 🙂

The Husband and I were looking to unwind after our first week of Nevada living, working, and unpacking and our friend recommended we check out McCormick & Schmick’s.  It’s located in the same business park as Bahama Breeze so we knew how to get there easily.

Valet parking was available but the parking lot was easy to maneuver.

Before even making it inside of the restaurant, we found our friends and their friends sitting at one of the tables out on the patio.  The weather was gorgeous and perfect for an outdoor happy hour.

Each night, there are different specials…

Friday night is Sushi and Saki Night.

IMG_2985 In addition to the daily specials, there are also the normal happy hour food specials.

IMG_2986 To kick off happy hour, the Husband and I each went with a beer.  His was a Pyramid Curveball and I had the Blue Moon’s seasonal Honeymoon.  They were both light and refreshing (but not too light!).  I particularly liked the slight sweetness of the Honeymoon.IMG_2988 Our friend ordered two bowls of edamame for the table to share.  I haven’t had edamame in a while and really enjoyed these.  They were warm and salty.IMG_2991 After a lot of patience from our waitress Jackie 🙂 (we were busy catching up!), we ordered some food to go with our beers.  The Husband and I decided to order two dishes to share.  The first was the Fried Zucchini with pomodoro sauce. The fried portion seemed almost like a tempura, yet lighter.  I enjoyed these more than the Husband.

IMG_2992 We also shared the Fish Tacos which came highly recommended by our friend.  We thought they were actually just okay.  The menu said they were blackened, but they definitely weren’t.  The fish tasted fresh though.

IMG_2993 The Husband ordered a Sam Adam’s Boston Lager, his favorite 🙂

IMG_2994 Then Jackie brought out the dessert tray, which was huge and enticing.  The Husband and I were drawn to two in particular (perhaps we’re craving fruit?).  He went with a tart.  The shell was pretty much like a lighter peanut brittle but made with almonds.  Everyone at the table had a bite of the shell and loved it! Inside, there was vanilla ice cream and it was topped with berries.  Definitely a good choice.

IMG_2995 I ordered the Blueberry Tiramisu which included champagne soaked lady fingers.  I actually wasn’t a fan, but I think it’s because I don’t love tiramisu.  Our friends ordered one to share and loved theirs, so if you like tiramisu, you’ll likely like this.  I was drawn to the blueberries evidently and loved them 🙂

IMG_2996 After dessert, we enjoyed a bit more chit chat.  Our friends have been a handful of times over the last few weeks and learned that M&S has a Preferred Guest Membership program.  It’s $25 to join but you get a $25 gift card back with your first use.  Each dollar you spend at M&S gets you points which you can redeem for things such as cookbooks and gift cards.  Sounds like a good deal if you visit these often!IMG_2998

Overall, we enjoyed our first happy hour as Nevada residents 🙂 The service was good and our waitress Jackie was sweet.  She’s new to Nevada as well so we were able to chat a bit about being newbies! Hopefully the Husband’s and my reviews will help her find all sorts of fun places to eat and go!
